Motegi, Japan

Sunday, 6 October 2024

The 2024 Japanese MotoGP is scheduled to take place in a town located in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, called Motegi on 6 October.

What to know about the Japanese MotoGP

Established in 1963, the race was held for years at the Suzuka Circuit, until it permanently was replaced by the Mobility Resort Motegi from 2004 onwards.

This was after the circuit faced criticism for its short runoff areas and dangerous trackside barriers, causing the death of Japanese rider Daijiro Kato and the injuries of Marco Melandri and Alex Barros at the 2003 Japanese Grand Prix.

Most recent race

The Indonesian MotoGP which was the 15th round on the 2024 MotoGP World Championship calendar took place on 29 September.

The race was won by Ducati rider Jorge Martin, while his teammate Francesco Bagnaia finished third and Pedro Acosta of KTM secured the runner-up spot.

Standings

Martin is still placed at the top of the 2024 MotoGP riders' standings followed by Bagnaia and Ducati's Enea Bastianini respectively.

Looking at the constructors' standings, Ducati are placed at the top - followed by KTM and Aprilia respectively as the battle for the 2024 championship continues.

Favourites

Bastianini, Bagnaia and Martin will all take centre stage at the 2024 Japanese MotoGP as they seek more wins in the current season.

Ducati's Marc Marquez is placed fourth on the 2024 MotoGP Riders' standings and he has been crowned champion at the Japanese MotoGP titles on three occasions.

Quotes

“The engine broke during what was my fastest lap of the race," Marc Marquez said after being forced to retire at the 2024 Indonesian MotoGP.

"I was trying to improve my pace, but it ended up this way. These things happen and it’s nobody’s fault: the team did an outstanding job this weekend; we win and lose together.

"We’ll try again in Japan.”
